Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Shadow Hound - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

I can't really imagine traveling back to Damis's lair to try to fight these again -- I'm not even sure if you can. But they're not hard to get to in the Chaos Tunnels. Fighting them there means you'll also have to fight a few of the Big Wolf found in the same rooms.

Easiest access is via the Dagon'hai tunnels you open up in the Hunt for Surok mini-quest. Use the Varrock East bank, then travel to the statue of Saradomin and enter it. Put on Protection from Melee and enter the portal to get to the Chaos Tunnels (there are hard-hitting Giant Ant Soldiers in the first room.)

Run north, take the portal there, then do this again to get to a room with crypt rats. Run northwest and take the portal there to a room with shadow hounds and big wolves. There's a second room with the same monsters on the other side of a portal just to the east; that room may be easier for fighting.

Equipment

Those who are level 127 or above won't be attacked by the hounds and will be just fine with standard melee gear; lower-level players may wish to consider wearing prayer equipment and using Protection from Melee.

Ranging and maging isn't terribly easy here unless, again, you're very high level.

Supplies

Bring super sets if fighting without prayer, or Zamorak brews and super strengths if using protection prayers. You'll need food -- an amount depending on your level and combat style -- or prayer potions, as appropriate.

You can also use Bones to Peaches here because of the bones dropped by the shadow hounds (the wolf bones won't work, though.)

Familiar

A beast of burden is handy for carrying extra wolf bones, which are valuable because of their use in Summoning.

Combat Notes

The hounds (and big wolves) are not high level, but being in a multicombat area means they can be very dangerous if they are aggressive to you. If you are level 126 or below and are not using protection prayers, try to maneuver yourself so as few of the monsters as possible are attacking you.

Drop Notes

Both the shadow hounds and big wolves drop only their own bones and occasionally a charm.

Log Notes

More shadow hounds killed than big wolves because there are more of the hounds and they respawn faster. Ratio would be even more in the hounds' favor if I were below level 127 combat so they were aggressive.
