Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Basilisk - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

If you can make rings of slaying, use one to go to the Slayer Dungeon. Otherwise, access the fairy rings and go to code "A J R"; the cave entrance is just to the east. Walk west past the cave crawlers; if you have level 81 Agility, you can use the spiked blade jump shortcut to take you to the pyrefiend room, then walk west to the basilisks room. Otherwise you must walk all the way around through the rockslugs and cockatrices, then past the pyrefiends to the basilisks.

You can also fight these monsters in the Desert Slayer Dungeon in Pollnivneach. To access them there you must complete the Smoking Kills quest and wear masked earmuffs or a Slayer helmet.

Get to Pollnivneach using a slayer ring or whatever alternate method you prefer. Run south from Sumona and go down the well, then run north to the Mighty Banshee area. Run east and pass through the magic barrier. Go down the stairs, then head south through another barrier. The first time you visit you will have to kill the high-level Basilisk Boss. This monster is like a regular basilisk and requires the same gear, but hits harder and drains your stats. Once dead, you can access the basilisks in this spot easily.

Note that there is a teleport at the end of the basilisk area in the Desert Slayer Dungeon that will take you to the basilisk room in the Fremennik Slayer Caves.

Equipment

For meleeing, standard gear is sufficient for these; they hit surprisingly infrequently. Rangers and mages can wear style-appropriate gear and fight the monsters from safe spots.

The mirror shield is absolutely essential -- do not try to fight basilisks without it, or you'll be sorry! To fight in the Desert Slayer Dungeon you also must wear the masked earmuffs or a Slayer helmet.

A black mask is particularly useful against basilisks when on Slayer assignments, speeding up kills by a solid 15%.

Supplies

Bring super sets for meleeing, or ranging potions for ranging. High-level players only need a small amount of food.

Mid-level players may wish to bring earth runes to cast Bones to Peaches; they drop lots of nature and water runes. If you can't cast the spell, bring tablets.

Familiar

These monsters drop enough herbs that I recommend using a macaw to improve drop quality. As an alternative, you can use a beast of burden. A combat familiar can be helpful in the Pollnivneach caves.

Combat Notes

Basilisks are pretty simple to kill, again, as long as you have the mirror shield.

For ranging or maging, a good place to trap the monsters is near the Agility shortcut that leads to the turoths.

The secondary location in the Desert Slayer Dungeon allows you to cannon basilisks for faster kills, more XP and more drops. You can also use a combat familiar here to speed up kills.

Drop Notes

Basilisks are an excellent source of nature and water runes, and a moderate herb dropper.
