Access Directions | The best place to fight these is the Ice Queen's chamber at the heart of the Ice Maze, because it is multicombat and the warriors are close together. Just be careful if you are below level 115 combat as the monsters are aggressive and will team you.
To get to the chamber, take the gnome glider to White Wolf Mountain, then head to the rockpile north of there (the same one you cleared during the Heroes' Quest). Mine it and then go down the southernmost of the three ladders. Run west and go up the ladder, then take the ladder just northeast of where you appear. Run all the way around the long passage. Go up a ladder and then down another, and the chamber is just to the north.
There are also a few ice warriors in other spots in the maze and elsewhere around White Wolf Mountain.
To reach the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon, use fairy ring code "A I Q", then run north to the dungeon entrance. Go west, then north and then east, eventually reaching a large chamber with ice warriors and ice giants.
The Chaos Tunnels location is a nice spot as well, but the warriors there are spread out and there are fewer of them. To get to it, use the gargoyles entrance northwest of Edgeville. Use the portal right near the entrance, then run south and take the southeast portal to the ice warriors and ice giants.
There are ice warriors in the deep Wilderness, in the ice area near the Agility training course. I don't see much point to fighting them there. |
Equipment | For regular meleeing, standard gear is fine. If you are going to cannon, then I strongly recommend Barrows armor or using Protection from Melee
These monsters are effectively cannoned in the Ice Queen's chamber. You will need your cannon, of course, plus a (disposable) pickaxe to access the area. Some prefer using prayer when cannoning.
Using Dharoks is also a possibility. In my tests, though, I found it not as effective as with other monsters. This is likely because these have 590 LP, which is high enough that one-hit kills are rare and you have to wait for a second swing. |
Supplies | High level players need only a handful of food for regular combat; mid-level and lower players need more. Super sets are recommended regardless of method.
For cannoning, be sure to bring extra food, as you will be under constant attack by multiple ice warriors.
I recommend an energy potion for going to the Ice Maze, since it's a long run. |
Familiar | A beast of burden is extremely useful for juggling drops and supplies, and can also help fight in multicombat areas (except the pack yak). The Ice Queen's chamber even has a small obelisk in it! |
Combat Notes | These monsters are fairly straightforward, as long as you are fighting only one at a time. Watch your health carefully if being teamed in a multi area, especially if distracted by cannoning.
The best spot to place the cannon is on the right side near where the warriors congregate, adjacent to the wall that juts into the room. Be sure the cannon is north of the stalagmites on the west side, so it has a clear shot to the west of the room. Be sure to watch for stuck warriors and "liberate" them. :)
When cannoning in the Ice Queen's area, your cannonballs will hit Her Royal Highness as well, who will attack you. This is a problem as it wastes cannonballs (she only drops ice gloves, a quest item) and she hits hard. Don't kill her -- she respawns fast. Instead, trap her in the north part of the room; there's a spot where she can get stuck between two light standards. Lead her north, then run around until she gets stuck there. She won't stay forever -- after a few minutes the game detects stuck monsters and respawns them. There are actually two squares there, so if you move around so she can shift between them, she'll stay put longer.
Finally, note that in several locations ice warriors are found near Ice Giants. If you are level 106 combat or below, while the monsters are aggressive you will have to fight both at once. |
Drop Notes | Ice warriors are very good monsters for drops, providing a useful collection of herbs, herb seeds, other seeds, runes and arrows. They also frequently drop charms (mostly gold). The cost of cannonballs has risen so much that it may not be worth using a cannon at these monsters any more, but if you do so, you should get back at least a good percentage of the money in drops. |
