Molanisk - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

These monsters are found only in the Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon; you need to have completed Death to the Dorgeshuun to access it. Get there using fairy ring code "A J Q"; you'll need a covered light source like a lantern.

In their default state, molanisks are found as dark creatures with a single white eye hanging from various locations on the walls of the dungeon. You must ring a Slayer bell within three squares of one to get it to jump down from the wall and attack you.

The best place to fight molanisks is in the room just east and then south of the fairy ring; this room has the closest pair of molanisks in the cavern, so you can alternate between them.

Equipment

Wear standard melee gear. I don't recommend ranging or maging these as they have too few LP and all the running around to get to safe spots is a nuisance, but you can try it of course.

Don’t forget the Slayer bell or you won't get anywhere. (If you do forget, go back to the fairy ring and teleport to Zanaris, then run over to Chaeldar to buy one.)

Supplies

High-level players with decent armor don't really need any food; mid-level players will need some. The bank in Zanaris is not far away, so there's no need to use expensive food.

As always, use super sets for faster kills and lower food consumption, except perhaps at the very highest levels.

Use a beast of burden to carry home extra herb and/or swamp weed drops.

Familiar

You have a choice here: use a macaw to get better herb drops, or use a beast of burden. A beast is only useful if you plan to keep the swamp weed they drop (which is useful for making glass, and they drop in large quantities, but unnoted.)

Combat Notes

These monsters are pretty much pushovers; I have no idea why higher-level Slayer masters assign them.

Again, fight in the room southeast of the fairy ring. By moving only to within three squares of the molanisks, you can keep the running around to a minimum.

Note that the 30 second respawn time begins from the moment a molanisk is drawn from a wall with the bell. Also, the game won't let you ring the bell again if you're already fighting a molanisk.

Drop Notes

The only really good drops from these monsters are the mole claws, which are the same as the ones from the giant mole and can be traded to Wyson the gardener for nests with seeds or rings. They are quite rare here, though.

The frequent swamp weed drops can be burned to soda ash like seaweed and so would be useful if it were noted -- but alas, it is not, so it mostly goes to waste, unless you bring a beast of burden to carry it back to the bank.

You'll also get a few dozen herbs per hour from these.
