Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Animated Spade - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

These odd "monsters" are from Tarn's Lair, where they are a nuisance to be avoided, but you can actually fight them for their own sake in the Chaos Tunnels. Run northwest from Edgeville and enter the rift leading to the gargoyles. Take the portal right near where you arrive, then run south past the zombies and skeletons and take the portal there to the room with these monsters and Possessed Pickaxes.

Equipment

Wear standard melee gear for fighting these. There aren't any practical safe spots, so you could tank range or mage them in melee gear if you have a high level, but there's not much point.

Supplies

Use super sets and be sure to bring food -- a little at high levels, more at middle levels and below. These monsters hit rather hard for their levels.

Always bring a one-click teleport to the Chaos Tunnels since you can end up somewhere unexpected any time you click a portal, plus there's the risk of revenant attack on the way to the entrance.

Familiar

There's no particularly obvious familiar to use here. Given the high cost of gems these days, I'd just bring a magpie for its foraged items.

Combat Notes

These monsters are pretty much identical to Possessed Pickaxes, which are found in the same room, so it makes sense to fight both at once. Just click on whichever is closest after the prior kill.

Both are fairly easy to kill if you are over level 100 combat; otherwise you are going to get swarmed by them in a multicombat area and they can be dangerous if not using prayer. You could use these for training, I suppose, but there's not much point in fighting them otherwise.

Drop Notes

These monsters drop "themselves" -- kill an animated spade, get a spade; kill a possessed pickaxe, get an iron pickaxe. :) They also drop charms, but not too many.
