I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Moss Giant - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
Unlike the level 42 moss giants, the level 48 version is found in only a couple of places: the island at Pirate's Cove and the Chaos Tunnels. To get to the island, you must have begun the quest Lunar Diplomacy. Go to Lokar Searunner on the docks in Rellekka, right-click him and choose the "Travel" option; you must have a seal of passage. He'll transport you to Pirate's Cove. Go up the ladder, run all the way north and down another ladder. You'll be on an island with tons of moss giants, along with a number of pirates. This place is usually deserted, and even better, it's multicombat so you can use a cannon (though you'll hit the pirates too) and a combat familiar. Mid-level and low-level players may wish to avoid this spot, though, as the combination of multicombat and aggressive monsters makes it very dangerous.
Level 48 moss giants can also be found in the Chaos Tunnels, but they are not very conveniently located. You have to run north from Edgeville to about level 15 Wilderness and enter the crevice there, and you'll be in a room with level 42 and level 48 moss giants. But there's a different room with just the level 42 giants, which is easier to get to and generally preferable for fighting there.
Equipment
Wear standard melee gear for meleeing; these giants rarely hit high-level players. There are safe spots in most locations so rangers and mages can wear their usual equipment safely.
Dharoks works decently on moss giants but doesn't dramatically increase kill rate.
Supplies
High level players need only a handful of food to kill these for an hour. Use super sets to speed kills and reduce damage, especially if you are mid-level or below.
Bring about 15 to 20 sets of alching runes.
Familiar
A beast of burden is handy for carrying drops and possibly helping with combat in multicombat areas.
Combat Notes
Moss giants are fairly easy for high-level players; mid-level players will need to watch their health a bit more closely. Be sure to also consider fighting the Moss Giants (Level 42), which have similar drops and are faster to kill as they have 600 LP instead of 850.
Like so many recently "improved" monsters, these take an eternity to die, so once you finish one move on to the next and return for the drop after it appears.
One tip: if you are fighting at Pirate's Cove, you can bank on Lunar Isle if you've finished Lunar Diplomacy. Also, on the way to or from the giants, look for the swamp tar barrels and take some!
Drop Notes
Moss giants are among the most eclectic of monsters when it comes to drops. You'll get lots of herbs, herb seeds, runes and alchable items. Given how valuable herbs and herb seeds are, moss giants can be quite lucrative if you get lucky with your seed drops. They are also consistent gold charm droppers.
Finally, they drop big bones, which are pretty valuable these days.
