Pyrefiend - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

Use a ring of slaying to get to the Rellekka Slayer cave, or take the fairy rings to code "A J R" if you don't have slayer rings. The cave entrance is just to the east.

Walk west past the cave crawlers; if you have level 81 Agility, use the spiked blade jump shortcut to take you to the pyrefiend room; otherwise you must take the long walk around through the rockslug and cockatrice rooms.

Equipment

Use magic defence gear as these monsters use a magic-based melee attack; generally speaking, the best dragonhide armor you can wear is usually the way to go.

Supplies

Use super sets for kill speed and to reduce food use -- these monsters don't hit hard but they hit surprisingly often for their level.

The amount of food you'll need depends on your level; high-level players are fine with cheap food while mid-level and lower players should bring better healing food.

Bring some natures for alching (they drop fires like crazy).

Familiar

Bring a beast of burden to take home their unnoted gold ore drops.

Combat Notes

These are easily killed monsters, they just do more damage than you'd expect for their level. Be sure to bring enough food if you plan to stay for a while. You can also drink the jugs of wine they drop, which heal 110 LP each. The wine drops your Attack level by 2, so it's best to use the wine just before repotting with your super sets.

These now have a ridiculously slow death animation, so after killing one go right to the next and come back for the drop later.

Drop Notes

Pyrefiends drop lots of fire runes, some chaos and death runes, gems and coins. They also drop armor items that can be alched.

The pyrefiends' special drop, steel boots, isn't really that special any more, as few people wear steel armor. Ironically, these boots are worth less than iron boots or bronze boots, which are used by low-Defence "pures".
