I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Level 42 moss giants are found in many different places. Since they are decent mid-level training monsters with good drops, they are frequently crowded in the more conventional spots, so you are best off trying alternative locations.
The two most popular spots are at the end of the Varrock Sewers, and the open area northwest of Ardougne, just west of the Fishing Guild. Both locations are constantly swarmed with players -- avoid at all costs.
There are several moss giants in Brimhaven Dungeon; get there by taking the ferry from Ardougne, running south and paying Saniboch 875 gp to enter. The only issue with these is that the wild dogs are a nuisance, unless you are level 127 or higher. Also, it's far from a bank.
More obscure or remote locations include Crandor Isle, Glarial's Tomb, the Wilderness, and Pirate's Cove.
But perhaps the best place to fight moss giants is actually the Chaos Tunnels, as long as you are level 85 or above. There are several of them in a smallish room, few people, and they're easy to get to. Bank in Edgeville and run northwest to the crevice entrance leading to the gargoyles. Run north and take the portal in the northeast corner, then go north and take another portal. You'll be in a room with several level 42 moss giants.
There are also some level 42 moss giants in a room that also has some Moss Giants (Level 48), but it is less convenient. To get to it, run north from Edgeville to about level 15 Wilderness and enter the crevice there.
Equipment
Wear standard melee gear for meleeing; these giants rarely hit high-level players. There are safe spots in most locations so rangers and mages can wear their usual equipment safely.
Dharoks works decently on moss giants but doesn't dramatically increase kill rate.
Supplies
High level players need only a handful of food to kill these for an hour. Use super sets to speed kills and reduce damage, especially if you are mid-level or below.
Bring about 15 to 20 sets of alching runes.
Familiar
A beast of burden is handy for carrying drops and helping with combat in multicombat areas.
Combat Notes
These are fairly simple monsters for high-level players, and even mid-level players will be okay with the right equipment and supplies.
Like so many recently "improved" monsters, these take an eternity to die, so once you finish one move on to the next and return for the drop after it appears.
Note that while you can get many more kills per hour with these than the level 48 moss giants, and they have the same drops, the net effect isn't a lot more of the good drops -- you get more coin drops here.
Drop Notes
Moss giants are among the most eclectic of monsters when it comes to drops. You'll get lots of herbs, herb seeds, runes and alchable items. Given how valuable herbs and herb seeds are, moss giants can be quite lucrative if you get lucky with your seed drops. They are also consistent gold charm droppers.
Finally, they drop big bones, which are pretty valuable these days.
