Flesh Crawler - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

Teleport to Edgeville and walk south to Barbarian Village. Go down the hole in the center of town to enter the first level of the stronghold, then use the portal in the southeast corner of the entry room to bypass the maze, taking you to the center of the first level. Climb down the ladder there to the second level.

The best place to fight the flesh crawlers is in the large room in the southeast of the level. To get there, use the portal to go to the middle of the second level. Then pass through the double doors to the southeast, and another set of double doors just south of there. Go through a small maze filled with zombies until you encounter a third set of double doors oriented west-to-east; pass these doors to get to the crawlers.

Equipment

Wear standard melee or ranging gear.

Supplies

Super attack and super strength potions are all high-level players require. Mid-level players should add super defence potions and some food.

Familiar

Flesh crawlers are a top-tier herb dropper. You can get a larger number of herbs per hour by using a beast of burden to carry more drops, but you are actually best off to use a macaw familiar instead, as it increases the percentage of higher-value herbs you get by a significant amount.

Combat Notes

These monsters are aggressive to all players for around 10 minutes, regardless of combat level, making them ideal for training. They rarely hit and have a maximum of only 1! This also makes them very crowded most of the time, unfortunately.

Ranging these is difficult while they are aggressive; try hanging out in one of the corners so they can't get to you. Of course, high-level players can just "tank" them in dragonhide since they are so weak.

Drop Notes

Flesh crawlers are one of the best "drop value" monsters in the game. In addition to tons of herbs, they provide large quantities of runes and noted iron ore, and even a decent number of charms (mostly green).

They frequently drop an herb along with 42 fire runes, and are probably the single best source of fire runes in the game, along with their other items.

While the crowding can at times be annoying, you can turn this to your advantage by taking the items that foolish players leave behind. I've frequently gotten good herbs, runes and even noted iron ore!
