I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Rock Crab - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
You have two basic options here: Waterbirth Island, which is single combat, or the Rellekka locations, which are multicombat. (The two in Sven's cave aren't worth the bother.)
The spots in northern Rellekka and along the coast outside the town are the "classic" rock crab spots and have lots of spawns. However, they are perpetually crowded (just look at the picture on this page!) These are the spots where you'll set up a cannon if you wish to go that route, but bear in mind that this will make you very unpopular among the others training in those spots. To get to Rellekka you can use the enchanted lyre, teleport home and exit your portal if your house is in Rellekka, take the fairy ring to Miscellania (code "C I P") and sail to Rellekka, or run up from Seers' Village.
Waterbirth Island is much more peaceful. While the number of crabs is smaller, there is one spot with three right near each other and two more not far away, which is convenient. An added bonus is the snape grass spawns for making prayer potions.
Access to Waterbirth is easiest if you are on Lunar Magicks -- just teleport directly. Otherwise, take Jarvald's boat from the docks in Rellekka.
Once on Waterbirth Island, go west. Just before you get to the snape grass spawns, you'll find three "rocks" near each other. There's another two spawns just southwest of there as well.
Equipment
Wear standard melee, ranged or magic gear as appropriate.
If you use pearl bolt tips, bring a chisel to fletch the large number of oysters and oyster pearls these monsters drop.
Supplies
I recommend super attack and super defence potions as these have a fair number of life points for their level.
These monsters rarely hit even mid-level players, so food is rarely needed. They also drop spinach rolls and edible seaweed on occasion.

Familiar
If fighting on Waterbirth, bring a beast of burden to take home extra snape grass. If fighting in Rellekka, you could use a combat familiar, or a beast to carry drops.
Combat Notes
There are two sizes of these crabs; both are identical except in appearance. (Neither should be confused with giant rock crabs, which are rather different beasts entirely…)
These are very easy to kill, have low defence, rarely hit, and have a lot of life points, which makes them a popular choice for mid-level players to train on. Frankly, I think they are probably the most overrated training monster in the game. Sure, they are decent monsters for getting combat XP, but their advantages are really negated when you have to spend so much time fighting with other players for them. If you're going to fight these, you should definitely do it at Waterbirth. Again, I recommend not trying to cannon these, unless you enjoy listening to abuse. Their drops aren't that good, and I think you have much better options for cannoning elsewhere.
These monsters begin as inert "rocks"; you must run over them to "wake them up", which makes them attack you and also allows you to attack back.
Every 15 minutes or so the monsters will stop waking up from their inert state. Just run a few clicks away and return and they'll be back to normal.
Drop Notes
Rock crabs don't drop much of interest, though they are decent gold charm droppers, and you can get a fair amount of noted seaweed. If you do decide to brave the nightmarish crowds in Rellekka, be on the lookout for good drops that short-sighted players leave behind (even noted seaweed sometimes!)
