I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Aberrant Spectre Cannoning Guide - Skill, Quest and Equipment-Related Prerequisites and Recommendations
Sponsored links help make RuneScoop possible; RuneScoop members don't see them. See here for more information about ads.
There are very few requirements just
for killing aberrant spectres, and a few more for killing them in their
newer multicombat area. However, to fight them for long periods of time
with high efficiency, my method design takes advantage of a fairly wide
spectrum of skill, quest and other achievements in the game.
In the subsections below, Ill
tell you what you absolutely need to have, and what I recommend, in
terms of skill levels, quest completion and more.
Combat Skill Prerequisites and Recommendations
One of the best aspects of this method
is that aberrant spectres are not difficult monsters to kill at allthey
do not require very high levels, and they arent dangerous at all
as long as you are properly prepared. Of course, higher levels are beneficial
in a number of ways, but as youll see in Table 196,
you can do this even with fairly modest levels in all combat skills.
Table 196: Recommended Combat Skill Levels for Cannoning Aberrant Spectres
Skill
Minimum
Level
Recommended
Level
Notes
Attack
--
70
You will be meleeing in addition
to using your cannon, so having a reasonably high Attack skillat
least high enough to use an abyssal whipis a good idea. But this
is secondary damage (to the cannon) so your exact level is not that
important.
Defence
--
--
The entire
method is done with a protection prayer active, so your Defence level
doesnt matter much.
Strength
--
70
Pretty much the same comments
I made for Attack apply here as well; youll get slightly faster
kills with higher Strength but it is not that important.
Constitution
--
--
Again, prayer
means that your Constitution level is not that relevant.
Ranged
70
85
Finally, a stat that matters!
Having a higher Ranged skill level means your cannon will be more effective
at killing the spectres. That said, they have rather low defence anyway,
so your exact level is not that important.
Magic
--
--
This would
matter for defensive purposes if fighting without prayer, but since
you arent...
Prayer
37
60
The spectres are fought using
the Protection from Magic prayer, so you need at least level 37 in that
skill. You can actually get by with just that level, but I recommend
having at least 60 Prayer points, so you can stay long enough to fill
your inventory without having to use prayer potions.
Slayer
60
--
You must have
level 60 Slayer to kill aberrant spectres.
Herblore
--
--
Jagex has effectively made Herblore
into a combat skill by creating powerful untradeable potions. However,
their use is not necessary for this method.
My levels at the time I
wrote this guide are shown in Figure 40.
Figure 40: Qeltars Levels During Development of the Aberrant Spectre Cannoning Guide
Plus 89 Hunter, 69 Construction and 96 Summoning, if you care. :)
Non-Combat Skill Prerequisites and Recommendations
There are only two non-combat skills
relevant to this technique: Summoning and Crafting.
Summoning can in some cases be considered
a combat skill, but you wont be using a combat familiar here.
Instead, youll be using macaw pouches, for which you need level
41 Summoning. These familiars are very important for herb gathering,
because they shift herb drop percentages so that you get more of the
usually rare, higher-value herbs. Without a macaw, you typically get
around 23 herbs above ranarr out of 100; with one, you get about 35,
an increase of over 50%.
A Crafting level of 75 is needed
in order to make rings of slaying. These items provide a teleport directly
to the town of Pollnivneach and are important for the method to work
effectively. If you dont have that level, though, there are some
slightly less efficient alternatives.
Quest Prerequisites and Recommendations
The only direct quest-related prerequisite
is the need to have completed Smoking Kills. This is the quest
that provides access to the Desert Slayer Dungeon in Pollnivneach, which
is where the aberrant spectre multicombat area is located.
There are also some quests associated
with particular items; see below.
Equipment-Related Prerequisites and Recommendations
The highly efficient method of cannoning
aberrant spectres that is described in this guide requires several pieces
of equipment that can only be obtained after finishing quests or meeting
other specific requirements. Some of these are mandatory for the method
to work, while others are only recommended and you can do without them.
First, the essential items and their
requirements:
Dwarf Multicannon: Obviously you need
a cannon. :) You must complete the quest Dwarf Cannon in order
to gain access to the device.
Slayer Helmet (or Full Slayer Helmet):
A facemask is required to withstand the smoke in the Desert Slayer Dungeon,
and a nose peg is needed to fight aberrant spectres. A Slayer helmet
is the only item that combines these protective effects (among others),
so you need one for this method. The helmet is untradeable; you must
purchase the knowledge of how to make one from a Slayer master for 400
Slayer points. Then you make one by combining a black mask, spiny helmet,
nose peg, facemask and earmuffs.
The full Slayer helmet is an enhanced version that adds in the hexcrest
and focus sight, and can of course also be used.
These items are optional but recommended,
and the use of most of them is assumed in this guide:
Rings of Slaying: As mentioned above,
these provide quick access to Pollnivneach. In addition to having level
75 Crafting, you must purchase the knowledge of how to make these rings
from a Slayer master for 300 Slayer points. (You can buy individual
rings for 75 points, but that is not practical, given that you need
many of them.) If you cant make these rings, there
are some alternatives.
Ardougne Cloak {1/2/3}: These cloaks are
rewards for completing various parts of the Ardougne Achievement Diary.
All versions of this cloak provide unlimited teleports to the Monastery
south of Ardougne, giving speedy access to a prayer altar.
Salve Amulet or Salve Amulet (e): The
Salve amulet provides a +15% bonus to Attack and Strength when fighting
undead; it is a reward from the quest Haunted Mine. The Salve
amulet (e) is an upgraded version that you receive after finishing the
miniquest The Lair of Tarn Razorlor; it ups the bonuses to +20%.
Both work on aberrant spectres and are highly recommended!
Proselyte Hauberk: This white platebody
with gold trim provides the best prayer bonus for its slot in the game,
at +8. It can be purchased and worn after completing Slug Menace.
