Aberrant Spectre Cannoning Guide - Access, Location and World Selection Now that we know what aberrant spectres are all about, and have a handle on what were taking with to kill them, lets take a more detailed look at exactly where we are going to be doing it. On this page Ill tell you how to get to the spectres, show you the best place to set up your cannon, and give you tips for choosing the best world for undertaking combat. Aberrant spectres are found in two places: the Slayer Tower near Canifis, and the Desert Slayer Dungeon in Pollnivneach. The second location is the only place where a cannon can be set up, so thats our destination. Getting to this town used to be a real nuisance, but Jagex changed all of that when it introduced the ring of slaying. One of the rings teleports is to the Slayer master Sumona, who is located in the heart of Pollnivneach. If you cant use rings of slaying for whatever reason, you will need to use an alternative. One option is to teleport to Al Kharid, go south to Shantay Pass and then take a magic carpet to the town; this is quite slow, however. A better idea is to relocate your player owned house to Pollnivneach, and set your teleport option so you arrive at the portal instead in your house. This is slower than using a ring of slaying, and leaves you further from the dungeon as well, but its still viable. Once in Pollnivneach, head to the well in the center of town, which should be familiar from when you did Smoking Kills. Go down the well, then head due north through the narrow passageway towards where the mighty banshees are located. As soon as you can, veer west and head towards the red mystical barrier there. Pass through it (Figure 44) and go down the stairs just to the southwest. The spectres will now be just to your northeast.
Approximately 15 aberrant spectres meander around the large central chamber of the bottom floor of the Desert Slayer Dungeon. You can theoretically set up your cannon anywhere in this area. My preferred spot for the cannon is in the open area in the southwestern part of the room. There seems to be a decent concentration of monsters in this location, and its quick to get to (which is important because you are banking frequently). Set up the cannon so it has line of sight to as much of the room as possible, avoiding any obstacles directly north, south, east or west of it (see Figure 45).
Of course, if you see another cannon already set up here, dont set yours up as well; see below. Cannoning is generally most effective on a world that is close to full, because this minimizes monster respawn time. However, in my tests, I found that this particular type of cannoning is not that sensitive to world choice. This is probably because aberrant spectres have a very short respawn time: only about 10 seconds on a full world, or maybe 15 seconds on one that is half-full. Of course, most players know about the relationship between world fullness and respawn time, so you are more likely to encounter other players on these worlds. And even on ones that are empty, it is routine to find other players in this dungeon: aberrant spectres are Slayer monsters, for one thing, and their value as herb and seed droppers is causing them to grow in prominence. The dwarf multicannon is one of the most despised pieces of gear in RuneScape, and a key reason for this is that many players who use them are inconsiderate. I urge you not to feed this conflict by being a decent and fair player when using your cannon. If you already see a cannon set up in the world you chose in the spot I mentioned, definitely do not set up yours next to it: this is counter-productive for both of you. One obvious solution is to switch worlds. Another option is to try another location in the dungeon, which is quite largetheres another large open area in the eastern part of the room that you could try. I also suggest not setting up your cannon if there are other players in the area you want who are just fighting spectres normally, without a cannon. This is not only unfair to the other player, but you will end up wasting cannonballs on monsters whose drops go to the other person. You could try asking that individual if he or she wouldnt mind fighting in another spot that is not ideal for the cannon, since they only need one spectre at a time. If you do, though, dont be surprised if you get a negative reaction. :)
