A better method to slay Dagannoths!

Postby Lord_Shalaj » Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:07 pm

Keeping it very short and brief, I tried out the Dagannoths at Chaos Tunnels. The results were MUCH better than the lighthouse dagganoths as the ones in chaos tunnels are superior in xp, charms AND profit!

The Dagannoths in the tunnels attack with range. Their max hit is very high which means you would be torn apart quickly. It is highly suggested you use prayer potions.

Now, I got a task of 171 Dagannoths, went and killed each one of them in the Chaos Tunnels. At first, I went un prepared, so my drops from the 10-20 kills in the trial run are not alched or pc'ed. I have provided both the inventories though.

Route -

Image

Inventory -
5 Prayer Potions - With 70 Prayer, I didn't need more than 5 prayer potions to kill off these 171 Dagganoths
Super Set
High Alching runes - essential
Fighting Familiar - Since you'll be praying, healers are of no use. You could carry a beast of burden if needed, not recommended though.
Lots of empty spaces - essential

Important drops -

Fremminik Helm - An untradeable object, but these are the ones that pay most of your money back. Alch these for 3.9k each. These fall under the category of "Very Common" I guess.
Fremminik Blade - Another untradeable object, alchs for 3k each. When I first got it as a drop, thought it was a godsword
Freminik Shield - Alchs for 3k (roughly).
Warrior, Berserker, Farseers, Archer helms - Rare drops.
Ranarrs

Stretched Hide - 4.3k each
Circular Hide - 13.7k each
Flattened Hide - 7k each

Hides drop frequently

Trip result -

Note: The inventory pic to the right is from the trial run. I left around 5 fremminik helms (got like 6 in the 20 kills) on the ground as at that time I didn't bring alchs nor did I know their exact value. To the left is the inventory after I finished my task (all tradeable items in screen window and all untradeable alched which only left me with some money I forgot to put to price check and the charms)

I used 1 prayer potion in the trial run, with 3.5 on the second run, which comes up to a total of 24.5k (roughly). You can count 2k-3k for the super set (Don't take a super defence, I had only taken for the trial run being ignorant of the attacking styles). And take another 4k for an Ice Titan Pouch.

The total I spent was 31.5k. The money I received is 151k + the items in the inventory picture(had left some on ground).

I received 38 Crimsons, 14 Gold, 11 Green, 1 Blue for 171 Dagganoths.

The number of charms isn't that great, but compared to lighthouse dagganoths which mainly drop gold, I'm sure which one you would prefer.

These often drop pieces of fremminik clothes like capes, gloves and shirts, leave them. Also leave the seaweed and the edible seaweed. Leave most of the herbs except ranarrs.

These provide more slayer xp (85 hp), more combat xp than the light house ones.

For armour, I wore bandos with whip. I managed with 5 prayer potions with this set up. You could wear pray boosting armour to save more prayer pots than this if needed.

---

While killing them, alch all the fremminik shields, helms and blades you get. Collect all the hides and spined boots and gloves. Put all these to sell on ge. All will take some time to sell except the circular hides which sell directly for 13k each.

Sincere apologies if someone already posted this method.

Thanks..

Very nice, I had heard these were good, but that's a lot better than I expected.
One correction though

You can't cannon in the chaos tunnels

I kill the one in waterbirth dungeon, first room when entering.

Melee only, no multicombat, summon obelisk, 100hp each, same drops as chaos tunnels, more charms.
That about sums it up :D

EDIT : You can cannon there to, where as you can't in chaos tunnels

The only problem is that you can't cannon them. I decided that the lighthouse dags were more charms/hr (xp wise) than killing the ones in the first room at waterbirth.

Still could be good for someone trying to save money while slaying.

Or kill dagannoth fledgelings with a cannon at Bardur's room, you get no drops but since they have 100 hp each it should be great xp. Just don't let Bardur attack you.

(It's dagannoth not dagganoth, make sure it's search-friendly. )

Looking at your route, I'd prefer, personally, to go to the more western portal in the room with the bronze drags and earth warriors, it has less "portal hops" and therefore a better chance of not getting a random tele, also, I think it's more direct...

With max hit 'm', accuracy 'a', and monster HP 'x', this gives the expected number of hits to kill the monster :)

+1
When I saw that wasn't highlighted, I thought the same thing, then I thought "perhaps it's one of the portals unlocked by Bork".
Do bork.

I had done the mini quest long ago :)

However, I selected the route that was guarenteed to be open for all. You can use the direct portal if you wish.

Thanks..

Just for clarification... where can you use cannons for daganoth tasks?

I really really get bored of this task, I'd like to speed it up.

Under the lighthouse, west of rellekka. (North of the barbarian assault minigame).
Pretty much the fastest slayer xp in game .
wearing a pink coat, feeling the breeze, smelling the green grass and walking towards the ever elusive horizon.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the fields of ripening grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Even though you pray you still need food, you aren't only dealing with ranged ones.

I used them to train combat in general. I lived at the Daggs from combat lv. 72 til I reached 100.
At the time we made a nice sum from the seeds as well. (Pre GE)
