Mass-hoarding supercompost with Vinesweeper: 1500+ per run

Postby Doomedrusher » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:59 pm

(28 summoning required, each run takes about 3 hours, excluding minigame time, yields about 1300-1500 supercompost buckets)

I understand that many members of the community may lack interest in the new minigame Vinesweeper, however the compost potion reward makes the minigame worth playing, even if all the other rewards stink. A few tips on playing the game are listed below:
-Get your own patch. Other players mess up things by flagging patches that either cause point loss or resets.
-Flag en masse. The seeds don’t reset if a flag is on them. I usually find five in a cluster and flag them all to get a nice ~500 points in one go.
-Play Windows minesweeper as practice. Recognizing the patterns is of great help.
-Inspect the patches prior to digging. Never guess.
-If you have a trusty team of 3, have one person dig and the two others inspect and drive away the rabbits. The team members should rotate so hunters do not run out of ogleroots. (Points are not shared; they are rewarded individually to each person in the vincinity.)
-Use a corner. It’s always better to have edge pieces as they are easier to anticipate.
-Always have run turned on.
-Don’t bring super energies. They are a waste as you won’t be running much anyway.
-Leeching by running near gardeners is impossible. You must be near the person who flagged it when that person put down the flag. So don’t try.
-Offer to buy compost potions for 15,000 coins each. It’s well worth it.
-Bring spare money. Flags are lost frequently.

After buying a required 20 compost potions via various means, purchase 1500 buckets. (I did not make mistakes in my calculations…)
Make a few compost mound pouches or bring a few summoning potions. You also need 100 scrolls and some teleports.
Your inventory should have the stack of scrolls, supercompost potion, a super energy potion/summoning potion, and 25 buckets. You should be standing in catherby bank.
-Use the mound’s special and open the bin. Use a supercompost potion on the bin to turn compost into supercompost. Empty bin with buckets. Repeat. The bin should have 5 doses left. Bank and repeat. You should be able to get 5 bins every 3 banking runs, which would take about 12 summoning points. (5 minutes)
-Occasionally nothing interesting happens when you use the potion on the bin. This is the occasional supercompost generator and it only serves to save a few doses of the rare elixir of farming greatness :)

*Note: the compost mound has five inventory spaces to hold supercompost/compost. You can use that to get two bins per run, although it’s not recommended as you waste five buckets of regular compost each time it’s done, and it’s tedious + slow.

Thank you... I guess. I'm not a farmin' person, but it's useful for people who are farmin' stuff. Thank you, again, anyway, it's helpful!=)

I myself was surprised at the lack of enthusiasm in spite of the reward of the super compost potion. This will hopefully drive down the prices of super compost, or at the very least, make making yourself less time consuming.

It's very rare that I see someone come up with a routine that is original and clever and that -- I would likely never have thought of myself. :)

Are you sure this is worth the bother, though? Supercompost is pretty cheap.

Kudos for creativity either way. :)

it was a matter of time before someone would see the brighter side. I see it as a cheaper supply of super compost for me to buy for when I run out of "homegrown".

Creative, but I still don't have enough evidence for it to make my top 5 things to do this week given the BH update that unfortunately shines over this update. Not to say I will not try, just not a priority ...hey its farming related afterall so I will at least give it a shot like catching implings :)

I'm with Qeltar on this one. While it is certainly nice to see people devising methods through expirimentation, I am not so sure that is worthwhile.

Supercompost is less than 600 each now.
It costs approximately 200 for the scroll, thats not a biggie. But the potion costs 5000+ points at the moment and unlikely Jagex will change it. It's definately not that costly in terms of time but spending 10k to get a few potions to me just doesnt seem worth it.

Obtaining points at the rate that I was able to, I could walk away with almost 4 potions in one hour's time. However that initial 10K factored in and the fact that I can spend my time more equitably just makes it not so appealing to me.

To put things into perspective, I could quite litterally make enough money in that hour to buy well over 600 supercomposts at current market price.

I'd have to see how quickly I could get the compost potions before I judged this method.

However, it is very creative--excellent work in that respect.

But unless I think I can get those compost potions quickly, I might stick to pineapples while farming.

I'll check this out too.. though I am not spending any points until I see if Jagex tweaks the rewards.

Part of the cost/benefit analysis is not just supercompost selling for ~600 each, but check out the price of watermelons, folks...

Watermelons? Come on guys, be creative! I've been using supercompostable material I bought for under 10 each ever since GE came out!

I use my watermelon seeds from waterfiends (dropped) and grow my own then convert to super compost...I only buy if I have run out of "grown your own" stuff.

But 10 gp and buy-able is a steal of a deal!

The only thing that should be made into supercompost is Pineapples.

You can buy 40 a day from the General Store man on the Catherby docks, for 2 coins each. That's 40 buckets of Supercompost for 80 coins.

You can pick them for free near Brimhaven, easily accessed by a glory teleport or charter ship. It baffles me why anyone would use anything else.

"The only thing that should be made into supercompost is Pineapples. "

I thought that at first as well, however travelling to brimhaven or buying in a general store does not line up with 10-15 minute herb farming runs. At 99 farming I look at doing herb farming as fast as I possibly can (it's the only type of farming i still do other than watermelons) and get back to training sub 99 skills ASAP...for me time is XP...I can grow watermelons in catherby (only patch i use for allotment), fill my compost bin and bank the rest in just a few clicks, then tele off to the next patch.

Once upon a time I would integrate the pineapple run to brimhaven into my fruit tree and calquat patch run...but i haven't been to either in months, let alone near the pienapples unless I am going to do a slayer task in the brimhaven dungeon.

I see the point, but in some cases pineapple gathering can take away from other activities when play time is limited.

You can buy pineapple for 1 or 2 coins each from the general store guy in Catherby -- talk to him, don't trade him.

If you herblore, once you have extracted the milk from coconuts, the empty shells make supercompost.

Tree roots also make supercompost and is probably the best use for all tree roots except magic roots.

Yew roots are used in herblore. I save my yews for those strong anti poison potions. (Magic roots are obviously used for nature amulets.)
