All Fired Up: Getting All 14 Beacons Lit in 10 Minutes

Postby niperwiper » Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:53 am

For those of you without an inferno adze that are seeking one, you may find this video interesting. I recorded myself through the whole process of lighting the beacons in double speed. It takes me 10 minutes and 20 seconds, but I could have clipped at least 10 seconds off easily. I doubt many guides can get much faster than this without spellbook swapping, best things I can think of would be perhaps using the wilderness obelisks for the wilderness beacons.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkgCCC762gI

Here's what I had written in notepad for this, right below my screen as I recorded:

Ooglog - ectophial, 1400 gp -> Salt water springs
1) Ardougne - two laws, two waters -> Run to wildy lever, go west to deep wildy beacon #1
2) Wildy beacon #2, 40 something wildy far west, possible revenants
3) Run all the way down to 13 wildy for final wildy beacon.
4) Tele trollheim - two laws, two fires -> go east, light beacon up obstacles
5) Go back west, then northwest, use agil s'cut, protect melee, sup restore at beacon
6) Games necklace -burthorpe -> go upstairs twice, go northeast to burthorpe beacon
7) House tele - one law one dust -> run out of taverly to goblin village, light at northeast corner. Alternative: Move-over-distance sphere to goblin village [from Land of the Goblins quest: takes two laws and molten glass to buy one]
8) Combat bracelet monastary -> go south then west then north to ice mountain beacon
9) Glory edge -> North to immediate edge beacon
10-11-12) One north of GE, one north of varrock, one north of jolly boar inn
13) Go southeast to entrance to eastern lands past con field. Light bag of bones man beacon.
14) Go south then east then south to final beacon nearby the morytania castle thing

Enjoy. I know the video quality isn't that great, but hopefully it's adequate. Let me know what you think!

Using PvP world's wilderness could be good as there is no revenants.

The chance of bumping into 1 at remote parts of wilderness is like, 0.00000000005%.

true but some of those beacons are near edgeville

Yeah it's really not worth it to do a PvP world for this. Revenants are very easy to run away from anyway, just protect range or mage and run/eat if need to. Really nothing to it.

And you run through pk'er central in edgeville and north of varrock, so not a great idea. Added an alternative transportation for the goblin village part, could easily have broken 10 minutes with a move-over-distance sphere :P

If someone felt like giving me a matrix with the point - to - point shortest paths, I could write a program to calculate the shortest possible path (fastest).

With max hit 'm', accuracy 'a', and monster HP 'x', this gives the expected number of hits to kill the monster :)

I'm about to do a second video proving you can use normal logs to light all 14 beacons. Planning to try to set a record time. :P

Damn it! I'm in the process of writing my own traveling salesman algorithm...it uses DP, doesn't run "n factorial"...it was going to solve this exact problem and find the shortest path.

I may have to beat your record. We shall see...

How would you measure the distance between the beacons lol?
(Btw, I'll give you 10 $ if you give me a polynomial-time algorithm for the TSP *scam scam*)

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the fields of ripening grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Measurement = Time. LOL.

It runs in n^2 . Times another trivial term...some 2^n thingy. What were you expecting? Lol.
