Dharok Zogres?

Postby Doomedrusher » Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:14 am

After some ACTUAL testing, this might prove to be quite profitable.

17 trips:
Total time consumed: 2.2 hour
Total loot minus supplies: 735K

Zogres cut your melee damage into 1/4th the original, rounded down. This means your whip will deal out a maximum of 8 or 9 damage. Brutal arrows deal out their full damage against Zogres while crumble undead maxes at a pathetic 8. This is why the majority, if not all, zogre slaying were done with ranged.

However, as far as ranged is concerned, the comp ogre bow is slow, being the same as a longbow. Plus, you must retrieve the ammunition, find a safespot, etc. I wondered if Dharok's set will satisfy the expectations.

Assuming a max hit of 110 at 99 str (From dried zombies; zogres and skogres are undead so salve amulet will provide the same bonuses), the max hit against zogres with dharoks at 10% HP is approximately 27. Since you are meleeing, combat familiars will be of aid as well. Their damage is not affected, so even a karamthulhu overlord could do quite a bit of damage. The spirit dagannoth would be quite useful as well.

(Steel titans + scroll = ???)

Zogre bones are worth 600 ish.
Ancient bones are worth much more. (5k-7k?)

Suggested inventory: (Pots are 4 dose unless otherwise specified)
-House tele runes/tabs (Use dust rune)
-Z brew: 4 dose
-Relicym's balm (3) x 1 (Drink before banking)
-Prayer potion (2 dose)

Disease doesn't do anything to impact the dharoking experience, since you'll constantly pot with zammy brews.

Equipment:
-Fire cape
-Full dharoks
-Salve amulet (e)
-Barrows gloves
-Dragon boots
-Ring of Dueling

Since Brutal arrows seem to "CRUSH" the zogres, I recommend using dharoks in crush mode.

Method:
-Protect from melee and piety flash the zogres. Call familiar into battle.
-Pick up drops.
-Open coffin
-Recharge prayer at POH
-Bank all bones at castle wars.
-Repeat
-Use a BoB if you want; but it's very close to a bank.

(Q's bestiary seems to lack the zogres :P)

I could see a big fat 10 appearing on your HP from Disease and you kneeling in anguish. :|

-Relicym's balm (3) x 2

I thought disease affected every stat EXCEPT hitpoints?

Anyways, Inoculation brace and Thermal bath might help; I don't know how frequent the contraction is if you are protecting from melee.

Offtopic: I cannot help but notice the many typos in your sig :/

Okay, Zogres are absolutely HORRIBLE at hitting a player.

Even at 1 defence (reduced due to brew overdose), they have a hard time reducing my HP faster than it regenerates. You can basically do a trip with just crab meat/trouts.

(Not my 14, the overlord did it :D)

Use this coffin for your keys; it respawns instantly unlike the other ones here.

Overlord doing my work :)

I managed to max 19 at one point but didn't catch on screenie, too busy flashing piety.

Ranging Zogres is actually not as anguishing a task as you seem to think.

There are a couple of safe spots where you can stand and use an Accumulator at the same time, familiars can be used just the same as listed above, and you need never be hit with disease nor worry about repair costs/dying (yes you do use up some arrows but they're easy to get ahold of, just buy shafts & nails). The safespots are extremely easy to find, my favorite is actually about 3 squares in an L shape. As a plus, it's right next to a Coffin so you don't even have to move to use keys. You can also bury bones, use keys repeatedly (bone, key, bone, key, etc) to wait for the respawn of the coffin productively. This also conveniently makes the Skogres spawn just outside your safespot where you can range them to your heart's content for the next load of keys and bones.

True, brutals may not hit as hard or fast as melee, but the experience is much more relaxing and enjoyable on the whole. I trained ranged from 40-70 on Zogres pretty much exclusively.

Ranging is easy and also fast; I admit that much.

As my above post indicates, there's a coffin that spawns instantly, so you don't have to wait at all.

Plus, I'm killing it faster than a level 125 ranger that uses rune brutals. The combat familiar helps a lot. (You can't use then while ranging)

Zogre bones are 700 ea; I'm not too keen on burying them. But that does raise an interest; how high is the reanimation rate for buried bones?

I always knew this was possible, but Not to an extent where it could be so profitable? Nice find. :D  However..... Do the ancient bones sell quickly in the GE?

ALL ANCIENT BONES SELL INSTANTLY AT MAX!!!!!1111one1 :D

By the way, you can dharok with only crab meat/trout and a pure set.

Ranging with rune brutals with the 5% prayer on constantly is 104% the speed of dharoks with karamthulhu overlord.
Ranging with rune brutals with nothing on is 98% speed of dharoks.

If someone can test spirit dagannoth, or maybe the titans, it'll be quite a bonus :D

Ancient bones sell very well, I've never tried selling ordinary Zogre bones.
I generally used a foraging familiar while ranging, which DOES work.

The respawn rate from burying bones is NOT 100%, it's more like 30-50%.

If you're ranging, try using Beasts of Burden.

Banking time is minimal, so BoBs don't help as much as they would elsewhere.

As familiars aren't affected, why not use scrolls? Spike shot from the dagganoth or something should work really well... same speed as dh, same max hit, different cost. Or maybe the right-click abilities combined with summoning pots? Just a couple thoughts.
