Maximizing time usage efficiency in minigames [Under Cons.]

Have you ever been bored playing Fishing trawler? Felt the time ticking away as you stood idling, doing nothing useful to raise your character's stats? No longer! To fully utilize your time in certain minigames, below is a guide covering many, if not all, of the methods you can use to pass time when waiting during certain minigames.

In no particular order:

1. High Level Alchemy (55 magic)
The horrors! High Level Alchemy is one of the most well-known portable methods of training. It's easy to do, it can be used on almost anything, and it is a primary method of training magic. Although some minigames prohibit the usage of this spell (Trawler, Pest Control, Castle Wars, etc.), it can be used in some others. Don't sit there in a bank alching, play a minigame while doing so!

2. Bolt Enchantment (4+ magic)
Quite similar to high alchemy, this method is also portable and you enchant bolts instead of converting items to coins. The difficulty is slightly higher as the required materials are not easy to come by. However, it is faster magic experience than alchemy and is allowed in the minigames where high alchemy is prohibited. It can actually even profit in rare cases, unlike High Alchemy.

3. Arrow fletching (1+ fletching)
Fletching arrows either by adding feather to shafts or adding tips to headless arrows grants fletching experience, and is one of the primary portable non-magic training methods. Higher levels let you use better tips and therefore yield better experience. It is allowed in most minigames.

3.1415926. Bolt fletching (9+ fletching)
Essentially the same, but you add feathers to unfinished bolts instead. Mithril and broad bolts are popular for this purpose.

4. Fishbowl + Humidify (68 magic, Lunar Magicks required)
This method requires 2 fishbowl and humidify runes. First, empty one fishbowl (it's left click as opposed to right click on buckets, so fishbowls are better), humidify, empty the other, humidify, repeat. It is extremely fast magic experience, but with 100% loss. Magic imbue may supplement the magic gain as it may be cast once per 20 seconds. [Thanks Blizaga57 :)]

5. ???

Please post other methods you know of here for updating :)

As long as you're casting humidify for a 100% loss, you can cast magic imbue once every minute.

I hate PC humidifiers and Trawler bolt fletchers. HATE them.

These methods of "maximizing" THEIR time have a way of minimizing the time of the people actually playing the game.

Whoa, calm down.

I am not saying that you should forget about the minigame and just grind these tasks. The tasks here are for when you would normally be waiting and doing nothing, like when you are the net fixing person and just standing there looking silly as the net stays perfectly unbroken. Notice how these activities require you to click once every one or two seconds; this way even if you click and fix the net, it is instantaneous and you would not be much delayed.

Now people who leech off PC are another matter; however, if you go and camp next to a portal, it's fine to wait and do these things before the shield drops. The monsters are harmless as long as people keep the doors closed.

Castle Wars, on the other hand, should be exploited as much as possible, especially if you are the flag holder.

Okay, more n00b questions from me :)

Firstly, Magic Imbue uses exactly the same runes as humidify with a steam staff, right?

Secondly, why use two fishbowls?

And thirdly, my classic one - what's the XP and cost per hour like?

Fourthly, trust Doomedrusher to include pi in his numbers. That's a question. Honest.

Started 99 magic goal on 2nd July 2008, with 85 mage and 3,569,067 XP. Goal achieved on 20th March 2010.

Currently semi-retired from Runescape as of 9th July 2009, but returning to get 70 dungeoneering and possibly complete a few other goals. I may or may not stay after that.

Yes; magic imbue needs 2 astrals, but gives slightly more xp and is easier to cast.

Using 2 fishbowls mean you do not have to wait for the first one to fill before you empty the second one.

The cost is about 2-3 gp per xp depending on astral prices for humidify + magic imbue, but it is very, very fast. I estimate 90-100k per hour clicking furiously, and 30k less if you are playing the minigame while doing it.

Bolt enchantment depends on the bolt. Usually loses money at 45-80k xp per hour.

Bolt fletching = 50 xp per click for mith at -60 coins loss, 35 xp per click for broad at 110 coins gain. Depends on your click rate.

You know the rates for alchemy...
